Statement on House of Commons Speaker’s Invitation of SS-Galizien member as Guest

We join the calls for House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota to explain how a former member of SS-Galizien came to be invited and recognized by the Speaker ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s address to Parliament.

SS-Galizien was a military formation created by Nazi Germany that was responsible for numerous war crimes against Poles & Jews during WWII, including the mass murder of civilians.

We expect an unequivocal apology for this unacceptable oversight. At the same time, we remain steadfast in supporting Ukraine as they fight for their sovereignty and freedom against Putin’s Russia.

Regrettably, the Speaker’s published statement fails to apologize to Canada’s Polish community. We call on the Speaker to amend his statement accordingly.
